The [Si] Caucus

Who needs Walter Mercado for 2008's predictions when we've got our opinionated bloggers? Here [Si]'s Zayda, Omar Mazariego, Poju, Ashakeda, Ivan Sanchez, Lynx Garcia, Kris Cruz, Jehuniko, and Oveous look into their crystal globes sans the Liberace getup.
[Sí]Trends: Who will win the presidential elections?
Omar Mazariego: Whoever's still alive from the Democratic Party. I mean really, a black man and a white woman are running. Someone's gonna meet Princess Di by the time this is all said and done.
Jehuniko: I am very into politics but at the same time I feel like here in this country they are kind of a joke. I would love to see Hillary Clinton win based on the fact that she is a woman. I don't know that I necessarily agree with her politics, I don't really know her politics enough. But, realistically I am sure a bunch of white conservatives are not going to vote for her, so it might end up being John Edwards.
Ashakeda: That's so hard to judge. Personally, I would like a woman president so I'm kinda toward Hilary, but at the same there's Obama and it would be nice to finally have someone of color, but I really don't know how they're actually going to do. I'm hoping it's one of those two, so we'll see how it goes.
Oveous: I don't know who will win; I'm just hoping Hilary Clinton wins the election.
Zayda: Right now I strongly feel that the two strongest candidates [are] Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. For me to say who I would vote for, Barack all day, but really, I think it's going to be a toss up between the two. I think it's time for our country to see a change and I personally would like to see Barack win and I think he has a really strong chance. Hey, he got Oprah on his side and that can't hurt!
Lynx Garcia: I think Hillary got it. And I want her to win, ‘cause Bill's her husband and he was really good at running the country. I don't care what went on under the table in the Oval Office; he was good at running the country.
Ivan Sanchez: That's a tough question. I think Hillary [Clinton] might find a way to pull it off. If Oprah would've backed her the way she's backing Obama, I think she would definitely win, but since she is backing Obama, Hillary is going to have a harder time, but I still think she can do it.
Kris Cruz: Hillary Clinton. Lesbians are in right now plus they make better husbands than straight men. As a male heterosexual, I'll be the first to admit we're too concerned about making money and having sex to tend to every need a woman necessitates.
[Sí]Trends: What will be the hot topic of '08?
Poju: I really think that society as a whole is going through some major upheavals; you really see a lot of turmoil building. I'm really worried to be honest. And of course you have all the global issues. I would really have to say that America as a society and as a whole is in due time for something crazy to occur, so I'm just waiting for something to happen.
Sanchez: I'd like to see people more focused on the war. We need to make sure the government has a real plan to start bringing these troops home, and stop telling us they have a plan when they don't. It's been going on almost seven years and it hasn't really been the "hot topic" it needs to be. I was in the airport in Seattle recently, and I saw a good 15 soldiers, I think the oldest one might have been 25, and most of them were coming back without arms and legs.
Garcia: I think next year the big topic is going to be diseases. I think we are going to come across some new ish. All they are going to talk about is more horrible diseases so we can be more scared then we already are.
Jehuniko: Global warming, still. Things are getting progressively worse, coupling with gas prices increasing and the economy.
Oveous: It could be three things: terrorism, gay rights, or immigration. Immigration will be up there.
Zayda: I think '07 brought more awareness to global warming and the seriousness of it and I think it still has to be the hot topic of ‘08.
Mazariego: The hot topic will be global warming. That and the baseball/steroids uproar will dominate what people on the stoop are talking about. Unless that J. Lo porno surfaces. Then it'll be a wrap.
Cruz: I think Metro PCS is going to take over the world in ‘08, have you seen the f**king deals they have: $20 for anytime cell phone usage?! Nah but seriously, Jay-Z hands down, with a net worth of over $580 million plus, just getting a $4 billion budget approval to move the Nets to Brooklyn! He's the biggest thing to hit New York since King Kong!
Ashakeda: It's going to be so many things; there's China because of the Olympics, Venezuela, the elections, the end of the war, oh and more hybrid cars! 2008 is going to be quite busy.

My 2 cents are for Clinton, but it's hard to come out of the closet with that one in Chicago boy.
some pretty great and sometimes interesting commentary (Sanchez and Cruz) :-) but I have to agree with Ashakeda on all fronts...
Wow! Well I agree with Omar, this country may not be ready for a man of color or a woman I hope my theory is proved wrong. Also I believe its about the issues that will be dealt with while in office instead of race and gender. the whole thing of voting just to get a woman in office even if we don't agree with her platform, its irresponsible. But really I noticed no matter what they say to get into office and what they represent... the puppeteer still runs the show (whoever and whatever that may be)
"Lesbians are in right now plus they make better husbands than straight men."
thats a ill quote from Kris Cruz...
I like that a bunch of individuals that I've never met all commenting with an awakened sense of ethics and global urgency..
orale, no orrrrraaaaale !!
Yo P,
Thanks for bringing together such a dynamic group of overachieving, over-thinkers… To tell you the truth I am surprised so many people are pulling for Hilary to be our next president. I guess it’s safe for me to come all the way out of the political closet…
One Love, Ivan Sanchez
