Si TV and Voto Latino's trendsetting reporter competition was intense, but after a storm of online votes our judges chose Wendy Carrillo and Michael Monrroy to represent the Latino community at the hottest event of the year--the presidential conventions. So who are these aspiring broadcast journalists soon-to-be party crashers?

Wendy Carrillo, Democrat
Age: 27
Birthplace: El Salvador
Lives: East Los Angeles
Present Gig: Host of the "Knowledge is Power" radio show on L.A.'s hip-hop station Power 106; working towards a Master's degree in broadcast journalism at USC in the fall.
Issues Most Important to Latinos: "Latinos are not just single-mindedly focused on immigration. That's a big misconception. We're just as complicated as any other American. We care about issues like the economy, jobs, the environment, healthcare reform, and definitely the war in Iraq."
What the Candidates Should Focus On: "Education. I guess the DREAM Act is not sexy enough to be a topic of conversation, yet it offers the ability for undocumented students to go to college and find a path to citizenship."
Truth Hurts: "The first soldier to die in the war in Iraq was Marine Lance Corporal Jose Gutierrez, an orphan in Guatemala who came to the U.S. at 14. He joined the Marines because he needed money for college and died at 22."

Michael Monrroy, Republican
Age: 18
Hometown: Sterling, Virginia (a suburb of Washington, D.C.)
Ethnicity: Colombian and Bolivian American
Current Gig: A political science student at American University in Washington, D.C.
Funny Guy: "I'm first generation Latino American and I am a Republican. Yeah, I know, that's a shock. I just broke two stereotypes: 1. I'm Latino and 2. I'm not Cuban American." [Laughs]
Why He's a Republican: "I do not come from a political or Republican family. I came to my views because of the way I see things in this country."
Issues Most Important to Latinos: "The three most crucial issues facing our country today are the economy, the healthcare system, and the war in Iraq slashes our national security. Over 14 percent of Latinos have lost their homes due to foreclosures and 15.3 million Hispanic Americans do not have healthcare simply because they can't afford it."
Photo Op: Struck a pose with John McCain at the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.
