Festive Fashions

Styleyes Miami's Jai Rodriguez offers tips on how to dress for any New Year's Eve occasion.
As told to Navani Otero

So, you've finally gotten over the turkey hangover (tofurkey for some) and returned back to work to be greeted by an overwhelming amount of New Year's Eve party invites. `Tis the season to eat, drink and be merry-on and off company time. To help us survive the holiday season in style we've enlisted the culture vulture himself Jai Rodriguez. Jai-Rod tells [Si] Trends what not to be caught dead in to ring in 2008.

Holiday Office Party: "Kill the flair! You know it! The snowman sweaters and the ornament earrings! Stop it now. It is weirdly tacky. Settle for something classic and throw in some red or green if you are feeling festive. However, remember these pictures will come back to haunt you so nothing that says you belong in a Kmart calendar."

New Year's Eve Club Bash: "I like gold and sparkles for New Year's at the club but that's just me."

New Year's Eve House Party: "Hmmm I am looking back at pictures from my last house party in my NYC loft and [the] women came with cute, sexy, sparkly blouses with a skirt or slacks. [The] men showed up in button downs with great denim jeans."

New Year's Eve Formal Gala: "Formal usually means black tie. But for men, black tie means you must show up in either a tux (cummerbund optional) or an amazing black suit with a black tie. Women, your dress should be formal and past the knee. Cocktail dresses are inappropriate for black tie."

Dinner Party: "Who has New Year's Eve dinners? Do they really exist? I have always attended New Year's Eve bashes. In that case something sparkly. At a dinner . . . hmm . . . wear something that is stain resistant!"
