Have You Met...

2008's Must-Have Kicks

Kickslusive's Louis Colon III helps you start the New Year off on the right foot.
As told to Navani Otero

10. Nike SB's Freddy Krugers: These scary ‘lil suckers were originally supposed to drop with the rest of the "Horror Pack" in late ‘07 but because of legal issues with New Line Cinema they didn't. Thank God the issues were resolved and they are due to release sometime in early ‘08.

9. Nike SB's Ferris Buellers: These babies are made in light of one of the greatest characters to hit the silver screen ever. The "Ferris Buellers" are gonna be a hot commodity for sure. Probably [coming out] in early ‘08.

8. PF Flyers' Albin: Classic sneaker lines, comfort, focused bold details, and a modern outsole define this timeless new silhouette. [It's] finished in Italian leathers with subtle botanical print linings. Available for men in black wrinkled Italian leather/patent, orange wrinkled Italian leather/patent and white crinkled patent leather.

7. New Balance's Seamless Collection: Designed by New Balance Japan, the Seamless Collection is the latest Lifestyle introduction from NB for 2008.  The upper design is based off an ancient Japanese artistic technique: drawing without lifting the brush from the paper also known as "drawing in India ink." To reinforce the idea of India ink paintings, the upper of the black version is constructed in hemp, which was often used for this style of art. The detailed red lateral heel embroidery is inspired by an India ink rendering of Mount Fuji--Japan's highest and most popular mountain.

6.  PF Flyers' Journa Mary Jane: A flirty and feminine twist on a favorite style. The wedge heel adds a bit of a lift and the pointed toe dresses things up while the rubber outsole sticks true to sneaker heritage and allows you to look chic while running about town. Available in purple Indian silk Shantung/leather, off white/beige multi-weave Spanish textile/leather, brown vegetable dyed leather/silk and brown floral print canvas.

5. New Balance Chicken Run Collection: When William J. Riley founded New Balance in 1906 it was an arch support company. In creating the first New Balance shoe, Riley compared the human foot to a chicken's foot, in that they both have three main contact and pressure points. The Chicken Run 1400 pays respect to the company's foundation by using representative details throughout the shoe. Each of the three Chicken Run styles uses different suede color blockings: yellow/black, grey/purple and blue/brown. [It also] features a screen printed pattern running from the lateral saddle around the tip of the shoe depicting a chicken morphing into a runner.

4. Adidas' Gilbert Arenas 2: Inspired by the baller with the bold moves who made the All-Star team in his rookie season, The Arenas 2 is the latest addition to the flashy sneaker line. Agent Zero is expected to debut 20 different pairs of his latest model throughout the ‘08 NBA season. You may have seen his "Vote For Gilbert" pair he introduced on December 7. Now if he could just get Barack Obama to endorse the "Black President" edition (coming out February 10) he'd really be in business.

3. Nike's True to Your School Dunk Set: 23 years after its inception, the myriad of color combos Nike's Dunk has gone through is endless to say the least. Lucky for us, Nike is bringing back a series of classic and original colors based on the original "Be True To Your School" ad campaign. They re-mastered the eight original Dunk colorways and incorporated vintage details such as broken-in leather, ollie scars, weathered foam and stained laces.

2. Air Jordan 12 x Air Force 1 Fusions: Nike and Jordan are joining forces to drop a series of Air Jordan/Air Force 1 fusions. The first installment of the historic collaboration takes part of the Air Jordan 12 design and meshes it with parts of the classic AF1design. The black and white "Playoff" color combo is just one example of this freakishly fresh take on the past.

1. Air Jordan XX3 (23): Jordan is coming out with the shoe of the year. With the 23rd installment of his culture-defining Air Jordan series, Mike pays homage to the number that he wore on his jersey his entire career (not counting MJ's brief stint as number 45 during the ‘95 season). The XX3 model is rumored to be the last in the Air Jordan line and the folks at JB pulled out all of the stops. Legendary kick designer Tinker Hatfield returns with handcrafted stitch pattern and Michael Jordan's exclusive signature on the toe cap. The first white/university blue colorway will commemorate MJ's college days at North Carolina and will be sold as a limited release in the top 23 Nike/Jordan retailers. Oh to be like Mike!
