This is so out of character for me. I wouldn't usually endorse a book without interviewing the author but I picked up A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle to see what all the hype was about and it lives up to what everyone is praising it for. I am about 80% done with the book and its hard to put it down. Without getting into too much detail I can tell you this...I feel more AWAKE then I ever have before in my entire life! In fact, I feel like I walk around with a brand new awareness of what this life is REALLY about. Its not about having the latest Gucci bag, or the sickest kick collection or driving the fanciest car. Those are things! Forms that we often define ourselves with. As I've read this book I've tried some of the exercises that the author recommends and it is real! There is a deeper level of conciousness that so many of us are blind to. I was one of those people. Part of me still is. But everyday I'm changing little-by-little.
Its hard to turn the other way when someone puts you down or blames you for something but when you begin taking the lead on your emotions and reactions you quickly see the power behind silence and just letting things be. SO WHAT if someone blames you for all the woes in their life. SO WHAT if you can't buy the newest phone on the day it comes out. SO WHAT if your best friend is ten pounds lighter then you. SO WHAT! Are those really the things that define you as a person. Do things define your life or do YOU define your life?
If you are still reading this then I've got your attention and I'd like to offer a small exercise to see if you can feel some of the awareness that I've been experiencing. Since we are at the very beginning of Spring we will soon begin to see the beautiful colors of various flowers and the flare they add to our world's landscape. One day when you are walking or in a park or just outside enjoying the weather, stop and smell the flowers. I know, I know its a bit cliche but pick a flower (NOT OFF PRIVATE PROPERTY) and simply look at it. Try to empty your mind of all the preconceived definitions that you have been taught your entire life about what this object is. Look at it in a deeper way. The Flower. The Petals. The Plant from which it came. Its Fragrance. Stop and let the beauty of it really transcend into a form of meditation and feel the awareness of a deeper meaning to things come alive within you.
Okay I'll stop preaching now. But if you do try the exercise please write me to tell me what you experienced or didn't experience. I'm curious to see the outcome.
Peace....Zayda
