Love Wisdom: Shake It Of

Some people say that listening to a few slow jams after heartbreak is like drowning yourself in a pool of despair and self-pity. But I see it differently. I think listening to a few slow jams can help mend wounds and heal a broken heart. You just have to be strategic about it. The first thing to do is to listen to a song that fills you with melancholy. Let tunes like Toni Braxton's “Un-break My Heart” and LeAnn Rhymes “How Do I Live” fill your heart with sadness so you can wallow in those gut-wrenching emotions one last time. Then switch to spiteful, angry songs like Kelis’ “I Hate You So Much Right Now” and Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” so you can release that pent up animosity and that negative energy that weighs you down. And the piece of resistance is the “I’m-a-strong-woman-so-I'll-be-just-fine” songs. Melodies like Gloria Gaynor's “I Will Survive” and Whitney Houston's “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay” should be the last ones to boom through your speakers. And make sure your speakers boom. Make sure the music is blaring and you’re voice is belting and you’re body is shaking. It’s the only way to shake off that relationship and really feel free.

Love strongly and wisely,
