Have You Met...

The Art of Mary Blair

Hi there,

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I'm sure many of you have been to Disneyland and are familiar with it's a small world. Well, today I want to introduce you to the artist who designed the look of that ride.

Her name is Mary Blair and she has had a tremendous impact and influence on my art.

You may be thinking...boring ...I've seen and have been on that ride about a thousand times. Let me assure you she has worked on much much more.

Mary Balir has worked and influenced such areas as Advertising, Children's books, theme parks and film just to name a few. Mary went to art school and was a fantastic painter. In the 1940's she began her long career working with the Walt Disney Studios. (This career lasted through the early 70"s)

Mary did a prolific amount of work at the (Mostly male dominated) Disney Studios working on color styling and design for such movies as Song of the South, Cinderella, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonerland. There were many films/and short cartoons after and inbetween, but the list is too great to name them all. Her work gradually crossed over into design work for Disneyland - advertising and of course her beautiful children's book illustrations.

Mary's work has such a childlike quality about them....yet her color palette and execution of her pieces show you how much of a professional she truly was. Mary had a style all to her own that artists to this day try to duplicate.

I have posted about 12 of her pieces up on my site for you to enjoy. This is not even a tip of the iceberg of what this wonderful artist has created. If you like what you see you need to do some searches on the internet for her.....and there are a few books out about her.

I hope you enjoy Mary Blair's work just as nuch as I do.

Holly
