Have You Met...

The coolest concert ever.

The other night I got to go to an awesome show at the The Troubadour in West Hollywood with Dragons of Zynth and Saul Williams.

Lucky for me, my friend Jason Lucas who I went to Williams College with is an amazing drummer playing with DOZ who got me and my man on the guest list.

It was funny the way it worked out too. Last Saturday my homie and fellow RSC member Bobbito Garcia was in town spinning a Fania Records Tribute Party, and Francisco Aguabella was playing live with his orchestra.

For those of you who don’t know, Senor Aguabella is a living legend. Commonly referred to as the “John Coltrane of the congas”, Aguabella is a Master Drummer who has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Palmieri, Cachao, Carlos Santana, Poncho Sanchez and many more. I’ve seen him before and if you live in LA you should too. He still plays regularly in the area so check out his calendar. Anyway we had such an amazing time my boyfriend and I both said to each other that we wanted to see more live music.

And the universe once again promptly responded in the form of a myspace message from my friend Jason who said, “I’m doing a show Tuesday with Saul in LA and I’ll put you on the list”

The universe is so ill.

So we got to go see two amazing bands perform. Let me tell you, if you haven’t heard of Dragons of Zynth yet check out their myspace page.
Not for nothing and not cause my boy is in the band, but these guys really brought the house down. I’ve never REALLY been into rock, but I can honestly say I’m a convert and I WANT MORE! They merge punk, soul, glam rock, psychedelic and mil otra cosas man. Imagine what the love child of Jimi Hendrix, George Clinton, Prince and Marvin Gaye would sound like if he traveled to the year 3000 and came back.
Yea exactly.

Next up came Saul Williams who I’ve been a huge fan of for years and I’ve gotten to chill with on several occasions. I just feel great seeing people I know doing great amazing things man. His show was awesome as I expected. His energy is always explosive, and his commitment to everything he does, musically, theatrically, poetically, always blows me away. Check out his new album produced by Trent Reznor of NIN.

Anywhos, 3 great musical acts you should check out.
Do it, hear dope music and be cool.

Peace.
