I Never Dreamed He'd be at the Bowl This Summer

My boo called me out of the blue Monday during my lunch break to ask if I wanted to see Stevie Wonder at the Hollywood Bowl. I love surprises. No, really. I hate making plans. Things always turn out better when they're spontaneous. So with only three hours notice and coming down with a bad sore throat I answered, "Oh hell yeah!"
My boo got out off work early and booked it from San Pedro to his parent's place in El Sereno so he and his mom could make dinner for the event. For ya'all wondering why, concerts at the Hollywood Bowl are popular because you can B.Y.O. alcohol and food. Oh and we're Mexican, which means we do everything with our family; well not everything!
He and his folks swooped me up after work and we took a shuttle to the jam-packed Bowl. Everyone and their baby's mama was there and I was praying I didn't run into an ex, cause that would be muy awkward being with his folks being there and all.
We took our seats at dusk and feasted on fried chicken, macaroni salad and wine (that we had to snakk in 'cause apparently for big-name events, they expect you to dish out $12 on their vino) before Stevie took to the stage escorted by two of his sons and daughter. He looked exactly how I remember him back in 2003 when I stalked him at the Chicago airport and cried when he touched my hand. I'm a big Stevie fan and Innervisions> changed my life. To see him live was a first, and although he's past his heyday, his spoken and singing voice carries the same healing properties as his early recordings.
He spoke to a diverse full house (about 18,000 deep) about the need to unite, something he said Obama has the power to help us do. He sang for two hours straight, belting out the usual crowd pleasers - "Isn't She Lovely," "My Cherie Amor," "Higher Ground," and my personal favorites "Golden Lady" and "All I Do (Is Think About You)."
Backed by an orchestra and a band that included three different drummers, he brought out three of his children who possess almost equal talent — his daughter Aisha Morris, who's "I'm Gonna Laugh You Right out of My Life" solo was deep, his second youngest son, 6-year-old Kailand Morris, who surprised everyone with some serious drumming skills, and his older son who showed off sexy chords, singing parts of "Ribbon in the Sky" after Stevie posed the question, "Who in the audience has made love to one of my songs?" (Mental note.)
The 58-year-old Motown native, who has sold more than 150 million records over the course of a 50-year-long career, proved he still has the same soul and power to seduce any lover of melodic esctasy.
