Risking Your Life to Blog… Free Cuba… Free America…

I appreciate having the opportunity and freedom to blog about whatever and whoever I want... whenever I want. But I don't take the privilege lightly. After all... a blog is nothing less than the bridging of that little voice in our heads with our vocabulary. And I personally don't like to waste my voice or my vocabulary.
I grew up learning about the evil dictatorship - the evil communists of Cuba and the evil Fidel Castro. Most of my education came from nuns, brothers or priests. I went to Catholic School most of my life until I decided to hit a kid with a hammer in the hallway of my High School (true story) - thus ending my parochial edification of privilege.
I've since learned about several different sides of Fidel, Che and Cuba from the many documentaries I own - compliments of a DVD burner and NetFlix account.
I can make a million assumptions of how, "for the people," they truly were when they set out to overthrown a corrupt government that was being run by the good ole mafia of the US government... Not to mention the boys... yeah, the real mafia that we learned about in Casino & GoodFellas.
But I always wondered what it would be like to hear about the life of a Cuban straight from the horse's mouth.
Enter the very brave Yoanis Sanchez.
Her blog, titled "Generacion Y," on life inside a communist Cuba garners a million hits a month from all over the world and is available in Spanish, German and English.
In one of her blogs, "From the house to the Nation," she speaks of wanting a female president when she writes, "I dream with a pragmatic housewife who, from up there will be worried about bringing us to our senses and dedicated to reconcile her children."
Imagine that... A president who actually gave a shit about reconciling all of the children of their respective country, whether that country be Cuba, the United States or anywhere else in the world... Imagine that!!!
Sanchez has given me a newfound sense of the importance of blogging. We've all been given a voice to stand up for something, to inject question and thought into our readers. To plant the seed that may one day be cultivated by that one person who actually does want to stand up and change this world.
A person who isn't afraid to speak - like Sanchez - even in the midst of ignorance, arrogance and the self-importance syndrome we've all fallen ill from...
Everyone is important when they look at themselves in the mirror. But not many are important when looked down upon by the elitists that run this country - all the while laughing at us uncontrollably.
We think we're free but we're not. We're not free because even though we speak out against the unjust society we live in... No one hears us.
They don't hear us because we don't force them to listen.
Am I lying? What happened with the Sean Bell verdict?
Sanchez thoughts may be confined to her little island but her words are global in nature when she writes, "I hope not to have with another competent speaker, but with a rare specimen of politician that knows how to listen."
You tell me our country doesn't need the same... And I'll tell you you're crazy!
How many of you would risk your life to save your people?
Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne
