Obama speaks on race

A week after the pastor from his Southside, Chicago church made some serious remarks on racism in America, Barack Obama spoke openly and carefully on the issues of race and racism in America yesterday. The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., who has been characterized as a good acquaintance and sometimes friend of Obama, basically said the US is fundamentally racist and the US govt is murderous and corrupt. Needless to say, everyone and anyone who isn't an Obama supporter is trippin' out over those comments.

Kudos to Obama for confronting a topic that is becoming more of an arguing point and cheap-shot material in the tense Democratic race.

The New York Times did a write up on his speech (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/18/us/politics/18cnd-obama.html?ex=136357...)

and here is an excerpt from it that really caught my attention... (he's referring to Rev. Wright)

“I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community,” Mr. Obama said. “I can no more disown him than I can disown my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.”

What do you think of all this? I'm still working it out myself...

Carolina,

The US is fundamentally racist and the US govt is murderous and corrupt... There now "Ivan Sanchez" said it... Am I going to lose my SiTV endorsement??? Were not allowed to speak the truth aloud are we??? When we do it's a problem...

I don't think Obama needs to disown him anymore than my friends need to disown me for blogging about all my crazy view points... It's called freedom of speech and we all have a right to do it!

One Love, Ivan Sanchez
