Have You Met...

45 Minutes to Save the World

Hey all,

You know every time you book a show one of the things a talent buyer asks you is how many people come to your shows. Some will say that you need to draw a certain number of people or you can’t play there again. Which was the case with our last show.

I usually start preparing about 2 weeks or so before a show. I go on a strict diet mostly raw, dairy-free & I do aerobics everyday. This gets me prepared to sing.  I vocalize daily (driving my neighbors mad probably), patricio & I rehearse often.

Maintaining our obligation to the club we are playing at I start sending out invitations to fans & friends. Well, recently I have been getting more rapped up in my obligation & when the night comes for a show I’ve been so distracted by the number of people who don’t show up rather than counting all the people who DID come. Even though I was there I missed so many of my own shows by worrying about this. This happened to me the other night when the pressure was to get 30 people there on a Sunday night. Then something reminded me why this show is happening at all…….because I love to play music. I love to sing. I love to entertain. I love to be creative! Thank the universe that happened right before I got to the club.

My voice came out of me like never before. I felt the light beaming out of me. I felt my voice in brush strokes. This is the way I felt the first time I was on stage; the thing that made me love to perform.

I don’t know if I’m supposed to be handing off some deep meaning to all you guys. This is just a statement, a thank you to the universe for letting me see the importance of letting go. This is a thank you to all the people who appreciate our music & pay to see our shows. Thank you for being in the audience. Thank you for supporting us. Thank you for your energy, which is most of the show. It’s like we all have fun together. It’s a big party.

I feel political when I have a good show. I feel that we (the audience & the band) have put a lot of good into the world even if it is just for 45 minutes. I don’t think that you can be more political & loving at the same time than by nurturing smiles, laughter & spreading joy. “Be the change you want to see.”

So, my only obligation is the obligation that I have to our music, to be more true to patricio & to you all. You’ve come to see a show…..despite the pressure from the club we are gonna have a good time.
