TGIF everyone! I hope everyone has had a splendid week. Its raining all day in NY but I'm not letting it dampen my mood, LOL! With the posting of my latest feature, an interview with Gilbert Arrenas of the Washington Wizards, I thought it fitting to bring you guys some info on his latest signature shoe: the Adidas Gil II Zero. I will do so in three parts, using the latest of his releases as my subjects. This first installment is labeled "Where I'm From"

Gilbert Arenas used a plethora of influences for the design of the 20 diffferent pairs releasing over the course of this NBA season. One of the inspirations was his background. This accounted for the 2 shoes you see here today.

The first is an ode to his heritage. Many people don't know that Gilbert is of Cuban decent. To pay homage to that, Adidas released white/blue/red colorway to symbolize the Cuban flag and even has a star on the cross strap to go along with the theme. This is one of my favorite of the many releases. White/blue/red is a classic color combination and its executed well on this shoe. It was releases on March 21st to coincide with the Wizards game against the Miami Heat, for obvious reasons. It was limited to 3,000 pairs globally and retails for $110. Although a couple of weeks removed from the release date, anyone still wanting these shouldn't have a hard timefinding them.

Next up is an ode to his city. Gilbert was raised in a suburb of LA and acknowledges that with this white/yellow/purple offering, nicknamed the Gilwood. Details on the shoe include an all white upper with purple contrast stitching and the "I Love LA" logo on the back heel and the cross strap featuring his face instead of the usual heart symbol. These were released on March 30th to coincide with the Wizards' match up with the Los Angeles Lakers. These retail for $90 and 3,000 pairs were released globaly as well.

Thanks go out to theshoegame.com for pics and dates. Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 of my Gil II Zero series and check out my feature on Gilbert here, http://entertainment.sitv.com/features/gilbert-arenas-sole-provider. Until then...
